Justin Smith
Justin Smith has proudly called the St. Croix community home for over 1 years. As an Army brat, he grew up in a family dedicated to service, with his father retiring from the military at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, IN. Justin graduated with a degree in Accounting from the prestigious Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, where he excelled both academically and athletically, earning recognition as a 3x All-Big Ten and Academic All-American linebacker for the Hoosiers.
Following graduation, Justin pursued his dream of playing professional football, joining the NFL, where he spent four years on the field and became a Super Bowl Champion with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After a career-ending injury forced him into retirement, Justin shifted his focus to a new passion: empowering the next generation through education and mentorship.
Justin began his journey in youth education by volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club and later became a school teacher on St. Croix. For five years, he taught middle and high school students in subjects ranging from math and physical education to music at AZ Academy. After the school closed in the wake of Hurricane Maria, Justin saw an opportunity to make an even greater impact on the island’s youth. Driven by a vision to create a safe, nurturing space for young people to learn, grow, and thrive, he joined forces with like-minded individuals to establish Lion Haven.
Today, Justin continues to lead with passion, purpose, and a deep commitment to his community. Through Lion Haven, he has transformed his experiences and challenges into opportunities for youth to build resilience, confidence, and success. His journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the impact of giving back.
